Dr. Peter Kross, is the founder and medical director of Rivergate. He grew up in the suburbs of Manhattan as one of three children. After undergraduate studies at the Ohio State University, he attended the University of Bologna School of Veterinary Medicine where he graduated with honors in 1982. After graduation he worked as a staff veterinarian at North Shore Animal League and then founded and since has operated Rivergate Veterinary Clinic since 1989, where he performs medical and surgical care for dogs and cats in mid-town Manhattan. Dr. Kross has served as a board member for the Delta Society, POWARS (Pet Owners with Aids and Arc) and for the company Animals Fund. He has also been a spokesperson for the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), with appearances on Good Morning America, Fox and Friends and the Rachel Ray Show amongst others. He also contributed to the “Ask the Vet” column for Disney On-Line. He has rescued and owned boxers for many years, and you may hear him referred to as the “Boxer Doctor” in Manhattan. His hobbies include equestrian eventing, yoga, scuba diving, cooking and being around animals of any kind.
Dr. Marissa Sue joined the Rivergate family in 2012. She graduated from Wellesley College with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Science and a specialization in marine biology. During her undergraduate training, she worked at the New England Aquarium in Boston as a diver, educator, and researcher. She has traveled to Costa Rica, Brazil, South Caicos, and Belize to perform wildlife research. She graduated from University of Pennsylvania’s College of Veterinary Medicine and received a business certificate from Wharton Business School. She completed a rotating small animal surgical and medical internship at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists and became a staff emergency clinician after her internship was completed. Her professional goal is to provide compassionate and comprehensive medicine for her patients. She currently serves as the guest “veterinary expert” to SiriusXM’s Doctor Radio. Outside of work, she is an avid SCUBA diver, skiier, and loves exploring the city. She belongs to a terrier mix, Lily, who was adopted from a Philadelphia shelter during her veterinary training.
Dr. Frances Kaminski started at Rivergate as an assistant prior to attending veterinary school and joined the practice in 2016. She received her undergraduate degree from Emory University in Atlanta, GA where she adopted her dachshund mix Roscoe. Dr. Kaminski went on to receive her DVM from St. George’s University in Grenada and completed her clinical rotations at Cornell University. After graduation she worked for 2.5 years in a small animal practice in Westchester County. During that time she worked closely with Best Friends Animal Society, caring for and rehabilitating rescue cats and dogs in an effort to find them good homes. She continues to have a passion for rescue efforts, which is how she found her terrier-mix Jake, and has participated in high volume spay and neuter clinics overseas. During her free time she enjoys the beach, spin classes and exploring new restaurants around New York City with friends.
